1- Sharing of data :- database belongs to the entire organization


2- Control of redundancy:- data in one place & not repeated


3- Data consistency :- data appears only once , any update to its
values needs to be performed only one and all users have immediate access to the new value.


4- Improved data standards :- the D.B.A. must define and enforce standards for representation of data.


5- Better data security :- is the protection of the database from unauthorized occess , all access through.


6- Improved data integrity :- data entered must be accurate.


7- Balancing data conflicting requirements :- D.B.A. difine priorities for sources of data.


8- Faster development of new applications :- a well - design database provides an accurate model of operation of the organization . New application data required is already stored.

9- Better data accessibility :- allow on-line access by users . they provide query languages.


10- Economy of scale :- all data of organization are stored in one database instead of many separate files :- the pooled resources is less expense.

12- Better backup and recovery procedures :- whenever the database is modified , alog entry is made .
if the system fails , the backup tape and log are used to bring the system back as before failure .
